We’ve spent some time talking about creative spaces and organizing on the blog lately. This is because our space is so important to how we work and being crafters we gather so many supplies that it is easy to get overwhelmed. This idea was reinforced just last week. I am a member of the Paper Issues (Friends & Fans) group on Facebook (which is awesome by the way) and someone asked the question “If your craft room was a TV show what would it be called?” There were a lot of hoarder and disaster references. Funny to see all the similar comments but also a little sad that it is so easy to get to that point. In that vein we want to share some ideas for how to keep our spaces and supplies organized. To get some ideas for your craft room and how different people stash their crap, take a look here at our Pinterest Board for crafty spaces.
If you’ve been to the book store recently you’ve probably seen Marie Kondo’s book The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up. She has a very, and I mean VERY specific way of organizing. My biggest beef with the book is that she doesn’t deal with the issues that come with having kids, like the constant rotation of clothes or the influx of toys and gadgets. But that’s a whole different post. Anyway, what I like about her process is focusing on whether a particular object brings you joy and best of all she declutters/organizes by item type rather than by space. That is completely how my brain works!
In my last few posts I show the process of moving my office/craft room and decluttering. I think the decluttering is key as the first step, then we can move on to the fun in organizing. We are excited to introduce a series – Stash Your Crap – where we will focus on organizing ideas for a type of supply at a time. This hopefully makes it fun and less overwhelming.
Can’t wait to share some ideas with you. We’d love to hear if there is a supply you are having trouble organizing or see your ideas for supply storage.
